What is the Child Disability Benefit?

The Government of Canada provides the Child Disability Benefit (CDB) for families who care for a child under the age of 18 who has physical or mental disabilities. Once you are approved, not only will you start receiving the CDB on a monthly basis, but you can also go back and retroactively take this benefit for up to a maximum of 10 previous years.

Through this benefit program, the government recognizes that people with disabilities and their families deserve a break. Moreover, the government wants those who were unaware of this tax credit to take advantage of it retroactively, and thereby generate potential refunds of up to $40,000.
